The Stamford Endowed Schools required a new nursery building to be constructed within the confines of the Stamford Junior School site to replace an existing life expired modular nursery block.
The new nursery building provided two classrooms to accommodate 2-3 years old and 3-4 year old children with associated quiet areas, play spaces, toilet and changing facilities. Additionally, the building provided a dining space, meals preparation kitchen, staff room, staff office and associated storage.
Externally, soft play areas, slip resistant decking and artificial grass surfaces provided spaces for children to play safely all year round.
The classrooms were designed with large bi-folding doors and a substantial roof canopy to allow children to flow between the internal and external spaces and maximise the use of sheltered external areas.
The site is located on the perimeter of the conservation area and the building was designed to minimise the impact on the surrounding neighbourhood and maximise natural light entering the building.
The project achieved a BREEAM Excellent rating, exceeding the KPI target of Very Good.
